Erick Strengthens to Hurricane; Flossie Remains Tropical Storm

As of 5PM 7/29/19, the National Hurricane Center upgraded Tropical Storm Erick to hurricane status. Hurricane Erick now has maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour and is moving to the west at 18 miles per hour. On its current course, Erick will strengthen in intensity over the next couple days, but weaken as it approaches south of the Big Island on Thursday.

The state of Hawaii is currently not in the "cone of concern" for Hurricane Erick, but the system may increase humidity and the chances for rain into the coming weekend.

Behind Erick is Tropical Storm Flossie. Flossie is a strong tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour, moving to the west at 17 miles per hour. Flossie remains too far from Hawaii to predict movement around the islands; however, it is expected to be in the vicinity of Hawaii by early next week.

Stay tuned to this iHeartRadio Hawaii station for updates on both systems.
